Former Manchester United great Kleberson has suggested the club to replace captain Harry Maguire with Matthijs de Ligt, a £68 million rated Juventus centre-back.
Kleberson wants Man United to recruit De Ligt as Maguire’s replacement at Old Trafford in the forthcoming summer transfer window, saying that the Dutchman will do a better job.
Maguire has had a terrible season so far, with his most recent blunder coming in Man United’s Premier League 1-1 tie with Burnley.
Raphael Varane’s early header was rejected by VAR after the England international blocked a defender in an offside position.
After overcommitting in a challenge on Wout Weghorst, he allowed Jay Rodriguez to come in behind and equalize for Burnley in the second half.
Rangnick, according to Kleberson, should not even start Maguire in Man United games.
“Manchester United need to make some recruits in the centre back position to replace Maguire,” Kleberson told Paddy Power.
“He’s a fantastic player and captain, but there are far too many times when he falls short, especially when playing one-on-one or against fast opponents. He requires assistance in defending himself.
“They need someone in the air who is faster and stronger, who can anticipate what will happen and who can stop counter-attacks.”
“I admire Matthijs de Ligt; Manchester United attempted to sign him a few years ago, but it didn’t work out.” Manchester United are in desperate need of a player like him. They need to get someone in there to do a better job.”
