West Ham United will give serious thought to sacking David Moyes if the Irons fail to avoid losing at Fulham. But there is a ‘slim chance’ of Brendan Rodgers being their new manager.
That is according to The Guardian, which reports that Moyes is likely to remain in charge if the Hammers at least take a point at Craven Cottage. West Ham visit Fulham this Saturday in the Premier League. But they go into the London derby sitting just 15th in the standings.
West Ham are also level on points with AFC Bournemouth in the relegation zone but have a game in hand. So, a 5-1 defeat at home to Newcastle United on Wednesday set off alarm bells at the London Stadium. Now, David Sullivan no longer has undisputed faith in Moyes.

David Moyes must not lose at Fulham or he could face the sack at West Ham
Sullivan has previously been Moyes’ biggest supporter among the hierarchy at West Ham in the Scot remaining their manager. But losing to Newcastle has forced the Irons owner to reconsider his support. Now, Moyes faces a must not lose London derby away to Fulham.
Yet even a defeat may see Moyes stay as West Ham sense a lack of suitable replacements with the chances of Rodgers becoming their next manager ‘slim’. There is a ‘slim chance’ of Brendan Rodgers being the next manager of the Irons
Rodgers bided his time before becoming the manager of Celtic upon Liverpool sacking him in October 2015. He did not take over the Premiership giants until May 2016 and remained at Parkhead until Leicester called in February 2019. So, he could now wait for the right job.
West Ham will likely consider opening talks with Rodgers over being their next manager if Moyes goes after facing Fulham. The Northern Irishman led the Foxes to back-to-back fifth-place finishes in the Premier League in 2019/20 and 2020/21 and lifted the FA Cup in 2021.
Alan Shearer has also praised the possible replacement for Moyes as West Ham’s manager before for Rodgers’ tactical decisions. The all-time Premier League top-scorer told Amazon Prime, via Leicestershire Live, back in December 2021 after the Foxes edged Liverpool 1-0:
“Brendan’s decisions worked perfectly. Not only before the game in picking the team but also during the game when he brought on the match-winning substitutes. In tough circumstances, you need your players to give you a shift [and] give you something extra.
“His players did that and more tonight. They stuck in there and it was tough at times for them but it was absolutely fantastic.”
