Newcastle United may be in luck in their January pursuit of Marcus Thuram.
With his contract at Borussia Monchengladbach ending in the summer of 2023, the striker is expected to be in high demand.
This has fueled rumours that he might go for free in January, and he is reportedly a target for Eddie Howe’s side.
The Sun reported over the weekend that Newcastle is one of four Premier League teams interested in signing Thuram. Arsenal, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur are all in the running.
Now, 90min has backed up those allegations regarding Newcastle and supplied further information about the 25-year-old perhaps joining a new club in the New Year.
Thuram will be available in January.
Monchengladbach expects to sell Thuram during the January transfer window, according to 90min. They are willing to let him go as soon as possible rather than have him leave the club for nothing in the summer.
Newcastle has been made aware of the issue, according to the report, as they seek reinforcements to enhance their European ambitions.
Howe’s team is now third in the Premier League and a strong candidate for a place in next season’s Champions League.
Some January additions would help Newcastle’s chances, and Thuram may be a wise addition.
He is presently in the World Cup with France, where he secured a spot in Didier Deschamps’ team due to his outstanding performance in Germany. Thuram has been outstanding this season, scoring 13 goals and assisting on four occasions across all competitions.
His most recent goals came against Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga. Thuram’s performance prompted Wolfsburg director Marcel Schäfer to characterise him as “world class.” Very high compliment indeed.
His stats have been outstanding, and his adaptability may appeal to Howe. Thuram can play anywhere along the front line, giving Newcastle extra options in the final third.
Thuram is in great shape and may be had for a low price. 90 minutes adds that he cost Monchengladbach £10 million in 2019 and that they aim to return their investment.
Thuram might prove to be a wise investment for Newcastle if the sale goes through.
