Report: Tottenham defender set to leave as Other Premier League clubs shown interest

Spanish news outlet Sport have revealed that Clement Lenglet is attracting interest from other Premier League clubs aside from Spurs ahead of the summer transfer window.

The report claims that Lenglet will not continue at Barcelona after the end of his loan spell at Tottenham, with the Frenchman having no part in Xavi Hernandez’s future plans.

It is explained that the Catalan giants were hoping to negotiate a permanent sale of the defender to Spurs in the summer but talks between the clubs are now at a ‘standstill’ and the move is now ‘in danger’.

It is said that Antonio Conte is a fan of Lenglet and was in favour of signing him on a permanent basis, however with the Italian’s time at the North London club now looking set to come to an end, the centre-back’s future is up in the air.

The report adds that Barca hope to recoup around €18m (£15.9m) for the 27-year-old in the summer and that the former Sevilla man has ‘other proposals’ from the Premier League.

Italian outlet CMW claimed earlier this week that Conte could take Lenglet with him to Inter Milan in the summer if the 53-year-old decides to return to the Nerazzurri.

    Spurs Web Opinion

Even if Conte had signed a new contract with Tottenham, I do not think the club would have wanted to complete a permanent deal for Lenglet.

The North Londoners always likely viewed the Frenchman has a temporary stop-gap until their top left centre-back targets became available.  Instead, they need to revisit the pursuit of Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni.
