A new transfer rumour has surfaced, claiming that Tottenham Hotspur is interested in making a daring bid for Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak.
Over the past several years, the 29-year-old goalkeeper has gained recognition as one of the greatest in the world, solidifying Diego Simeone’s team.
Oblak has played 360 times for Atletico Madrid and has one La Liga championship to his name. His boss has also compared him to Lionel Messi for his impact on the squad.
Despite the Slovenian signing a new contract earlier this year, there have been rumours about his departure.
Tottenham is reportedly eager to sign Oblak as a successor for Hugo Lloris, who may leave at the end of the current campaign.
With former Atletico stopper David De Gea now in his 30s as well, Manchester United is also said to be a fierce rival for his services.
Given that he is truly world-class at his position and may even be an improvement over Lloris, Oblak has the potential to be a spectacular purchase for Spurs.

With all due respect to the current captain of Tottenham, his goal conceded per 90 minutes and lifetime save % are worse than the Atletico star’s, who has also won the Slovenian Footballer of the Year award four times and has a track record of success in the Champions League over a sustained period.
Oblak has received praise for his demeanour off the field as well. Former Atletico player Milinko Pantic claimed that the goalkeeper “never complains,” which is a quality that any manager would undoubtedly value.
He is also six years Lloris’ junior at age 29, so he wouldn’t just be there as a temporary fix. If he joins Spurs and performs at the same level he did in the Spanish capital, he might be a hero at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for many years.
