AC Milan have reportedly changed their stance on signing rumoured Tottenham target Hakim Ziyech, with the Italian side now no longer interested in the Chelsea attacker due to his wage demands.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Rossoneri have opted out of a January move for Ziyech after it was revealed that the Morocco international wanted as much as €8m-a-season (£6.8m), a contract that would have made the 29-year-old the highest-paid player on Milan’s books.
With Algemeen Dagblad reporting that Tottenham are also interested in Ziyech, this news will be music to Antonio Conte’s ears, with the Italian manager no doubt seeing Milan’s new stance on the winger as a major transfer boost as Spurs look to sign a new creative outlet.
Ziyech has been one of the stars of the 2022 FIFA World Cup as the forward has guided Morocco to a historic semi-final place in the competition, making the Atlas Lions the first African nation to ever reach the final four of the tournament as France lies in wait for the Chelsea winger and company.
Indeed, the attacker has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge for the best part of a year, and there’s no denying that Ziyech will win himself a move in January based on his performances for Qatar this winter, with Tottenham now potentially the side who lands the 29-year-old.
After all, Milan dropping out of the race is massive for clubs like Tottenham who have registered an interest in the former Ajax man. And for Ziyech himself, a move to north London could be a tempting one if Daniel Levy is willing to match the playmaker’s wages.
Tottenham must sign Ziyech with Milan out of the race
Milan looked like nailed-on favourites to sign Ziyech leading up to the January window. Yet the Italian giants latest stance has now blown the race wide-open for the Premier League forward, and Tottenham must ensure they’re the winners to land the attacker.
An extra creative outlet will be a massive boost for Tottenham in January, and with Ziyech set to be on the move, there’s no better option in the Premier League market than the Moroccon international, who could be keen to join Conte in N17.
