Roy Keane delivers dismal verdict on Everton’s relegation rivals Leeds United

Defeat against West Ham United means Leeds United need to win their final match to have any chance at staying up this season

Roy Keane admits he doesn’t see Leeds United putting up a fight to claw back Everton in their ongoing scrap against Premier League relegation.

Defeat for third-from-bottom Leeds – managed by former Everton manager Sam Allardyce – at European heroes West Ham United on Sunday afternoon means they must now win their final match at home to Tottenham Hotspur to have any chance at staying up.

Now the focus turns to second-from-bottom Leicester City, who are away to Newcastle United on Monday night. Should the Foxes drop points against the top-four chasing Magpies, the equation will be simple for the 17th-placed Blues.

As Sean Dyche and his squad would head into their final-day clash at home to Bournemouth knocking victory would guarantee their safety – no matter how Leeds get on against Tottenham or Leicester at home to West Ham.

According to Keane, though, there is not too much need to look over their shoulders at the Whites.

The former Manchester United captain was on punditry duty for Sky Sports as Allardyce’s men surrendered an early lead to lose 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Declan Rice, Jarrod Bowen and Manuel Lanzini were on target for the Hammers after Rodrigo had opened the scoring for their struggling opponents.

Addressing the relegation battle post-match, Keane was pressed on Leeds and their hopes of staying in the division this season. He said: “Not from today’s performance.

“I thought they were really poor. They were lacking confidence, quality, belief, they’ve lacked – even strength and energy towards the end – they looked really open and vulnerable.

“They looked so short. A real lack of quality.”
