‘Spoke to fans’ – Phil Hay shares what supporters ‘Massively’ regret as Leeds make announcement

Phil Hay delivers season tickets admission as Leeds United announce 10 per cent hike

Phil Hay claims that a number of Leeds United fans regretted giving up their season tickets before Marcelo Bielsa took charge of the club.

Leeds recently announced that they will be hiking the prices of next season’s tickets by 10 per cent, which led to some in the fanbase opposing the move.

The Athletic journalist spoke to the Whites fans and highlighted their dilemmas as if they fail to renew their season tickets, there’s a good chance they won’t be able to get a new one for years to come.

He said on the Phil Hay Show at 3:59, “I spoke to fans who had given up their season tickets and massively regretted that they had because the surge for season tickets generated rapidly during Bielsa’s watch for obvious reasons. It became nigh on impossible to get a season ticket and also you realise that if you’re bottom down on the list, realistically it’s going to take ages to get it back.

“If Leeds go down then it will reduce [the price], but I don’t expect it to be any easy to get one and there is the dilemma.”

    Tough situation

There currently is a cost-of-living crisis and money is tight for a number of people so seeing this is certainly not going to please too many people.

Leeds are a club that have put their fans first on many occasions, but this technically is the second time in ten years that they’ve announced a hike in prices.

It’s never easy to ask fans to pay more and it’s equally hard for the supporters to say no to renewing it as there’s a long queue waiting in line to grab that ticket.

Even though the football hasn’t been great in over a year and the Whites have constantly flirted with relegation, there still is a huge demand for Elland Road matches and rightly so.

Leeds are the pride of Yorkshire and the fact that they’re a one-club city makes it all the more impressive and there’s a real connection with the local community as well.

It remains to be seen how things transpire if Leeds end up getting relegated but we still expect there to be plenty of demand, unlike the way it was pre Bielsa.
