This is the latest Super Eagles of Nigeria news as they get new head coach after much deliberation over who to appoint.
On Sunday, the Nigeria Football Federation announced the appointment of a new Super Eagles coach.
Jose Peseiro has been named Nigeria’s head coach, following weeks of speculation that he was the favourite for the Super Eagles’ head coaching post.
The NFF announced the news in a statement posted on Sunday, stating that the appointment is contingent on the signature of agreed-upon agreements.
It also indicated that the Portuguese will begin working immediately.
“On Sunday, the Nigeria Football Federation announced the hiring of Mr Joeé Santos Peseiro as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles Senior Men’s National Team.” The appointment is effective immediately, pending the execution of an agreement between the NFF and Mr Peseiro,” it stated.

“José Vitor dos Santos Peseiro, who turned 62 this month, is a Portuguese striker who has extensive coaching experience with elite clubs and national teams throughout four continents, including Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America.
Peseiro has coached at Sporting Lisbon, FC Porto, Panathinaikos, Rapid Bucharest, Sporting Braga, Victoria Gumaraes, Al-Hilal, Al-Wahda, Al-Ahly Cairo, Sharjah FC, and Real Madrid (assistant coach during the Galacticos era), as well as serving as Head Coach of the Saudi Arabian and Venezuelan National Teams.

“During the three-time African champions’ impending tour of the United States of America, Peseiro is set to command the Super Eagles for the first time in prestige friendlies against Mexico and Ecuador’s ‘A’ Teams.
The Eagles will face the El Tri at AT & T Stadium in Dallas, Texas on Saturday, May 28th, before heading to New Jersey on Thursday, June 2nd to face Ecuador at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison.”
In a change from the federation’s previous setup, Finidi George has replaced Salisu Yusuf as first assistant, while CHAN team coach Yusuf has been promoted to second assistant.
“The NFF also announced that Finidi George, a former Nigeria international forward, will now serve as Peseiro’s first assistant, with Salisu Yusuf serving as Peseiro’s second assistant and Head Coach of the CHAN and U23 National Teams.
Usman Abdallah will serve as 3rd Assistant, while Eboboritse Uwejamomere will serve as Match Analyst and Ike Shorounmu, a former Nigerian international, will serve as Goalkeepers’ Trainer, according to the release.
