Talks Open: Leeds turn attention to signing assist king – Sources

Leeds United have opened talks to sign Red Bull Salzburg star Max Wober in a potential £14m deal, sources have told Football Insider.

The Austria international, 24, is a centre-back but has been used with great success at left-back this season.

Leeds have switched their attention to Wober as they work on agreeing a fee with Jesse Marsch’s old club Red Bull Salzburg.

Negotiations are centring on a move worth an initial £9.5m rising to £14m with add-ons.

Marsch is known for dipping into the market for some of his former players, and Wober could be the fourth player from the Red Bull stable to head to Elland Road in two windows.

Leeds signed Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen from Salzburg, while also adding Tyler Adams from the German giants RB Leipzig.

Wober has been in impressive form for Salzburg this season, with his 21 matches yielding six assists and two goals mainly from left-back.

The Austria international, who has captained his side for the majority of this campaign, is out of contract in June 2025.

Leeds United are desperate for left-back cover heading into the January window as they attempt to avoid another close-run relegation battle this season.

Pascal Struijk, who trained predominantly as a centre-back in his youth, has been forced to start 13 games at left-back this term.

Junior Firpo, who was signed with much promise from Barcelona last summer (2021), has struggled for fitness and form since coming to Elland Road.

Marsch’s side sit 15th in the Premier League table – just two points above the relegation zone.
