Journalist Dean Jones claims that Fulham fans should not be worried about the possibility of Marco Silva leaving this summer, despite links to West Ham United.
West Ham could be searching for a new manager at the end of the campaign depending on their decision on David Moyes’ future.
It’s been an underwhelming campaign for the Hammers in terms of their performance in the Premier League. They are seemingly out of trouble after they picked up a 1-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday.
Yet, West Ham could decide to go in a different direction ahead of next season, with The Daily Mail reporting the east Londoners hold an interest in Marco Silva.
Now, Jones has told GiveMeSport that he’s heard that it’s unlikely that Silva will jump ship this summer.
Silva could stay at Fulham
Jones shared an update on West Ham’s interest in Silva and reassured Fulham fans that he is likely to remain at Craven Cottage.
“It is true that there has been a degree of interest from West Ham, but obviously they have a manager in place at the moment and there is no clarity over what happens beyond this season. So we have to wait,” the journalist said.
“Marco Silva is highly regarded in this league, so it’s probably no surprise he is on the radar of many clubs when they start to consider who they might turn to if they look for a new manager, and that becomes even more intriguing when there are stories about him having a release clause.
“He obviously has a bit of a track record for jumping ship from a club, but the information I have at the moment is that Fulham fans should not worry too much about that happening. The interesting thing from here will be what Fulham do to convince him to sign a new deal.
“I’m hearing that they are ready to back him in the summer transfer window to make sure he remains motivated to stay at Fulham. The club will also give him assurances that he will be able to keep this squad together if offers land for people like Palhinha.
“If West Ham do end up parting ways with Moyes, then this story could crop up again, but Fulham’s aim has to be to get him signed onto a new deal before they get to such a point.”
Of course, it remains unclear whether or not West Ham will look to replace Moyes at the end of the season.
You get the impression that much will depend on their success in the Europa Conference League. The Hammers have a semi-final clash against AZ Alkmaar to look forward to, with the first-leg set to be played at the London Stadium tonight.
Nevertheless, should West Ham decide to head in a different direction, Silva would be a brilliant option for them.
The Portuguese boss has done a remarkable job with Fulham this year, but it would be a surprise to see him make the switch to West Ham.
