There has been speculation about Kane leaving Spurs for some time. Even though his transfer to Manchester City didn’t materialise in the summer before last, he hasn’t signed a new deal and, as things stand, will be free to depart in 2024.
Tottenham should prepare for life without him in the event that he decides to depart. Additionally, according to journalist Christian Falk, Bayern Munich is interested in the English player.
Therefore, these ties to Lukaku may simply be Spurs and Conte planning for the worst and indicating a desire to let Kane depart while he is still available for the appropriate price.
What about Son?
Of course, Kane is not the only target of Spurs’ offensive. Son Heung-min, who has already nearly scored 100 Premier League goals in a Tottenham shirt, has really been an important player beside him.
Son, though, has struggled with his form this year and has yet to score in any of his seven games. In light of this, these connections to Lukaku may indicate that Conte is prepared to phase out Son, who is already 30 years old, if he cannot regain his best form.
In fact, Son used to be considered the key replacement for Kane should he leave because of his impressive goal-scoring record.

However, the struggling Son may now be seen as less significant because Brazilian striker Richarlison joined for £60 million in the summer and made an impression with two goals on his Champions League debut.
There will be a significant gap to fill in north London if Kane leaves anytime soon. The striker has scored 253 goals for the team after all.
Son may be considered a good enough player to help cover any possible vacuum left by the Englishman after scoring 24 of his own last season.
Conte could have a few minor qualms, though, given his poor form and advanced age. Richarlison, meantime, has shown promise, and even if he is still just beginning his Spurs career, his entry shows the Italian manager is attempting to relieve pressure on Kane and Son.
If these rumours about Lukaku are accurate, it may mean that Conte is willing to put more faith in his young players like Richarlison and perhaps the Belgian than in more seasoned players like Son and Kane.
