Tottenham News: Star player admits to leave Spurs this summer after fallout with Conte & amidst Ajax interest

The 24-year-old Dutchman appeared 32 times for Spurs last season, scoring four goals and assisting on two others, including two dramatic late goals against Leicester City.
Despite plaudits from both Antonio Conte and Nuno Espirito Santo before him, Bergwijn only started four Premier League games last season, and the winger was regularly relegated to the bench late in games.
Ajax tried to sign Bergwijn in the January transfer window, but Tottenham turned them down, with Conte indicating that he wanted to keep the midfielder, who joined Spurs from PSV Eindhoven for £27 million in January 2020. Ajax is rumored to be making another attempt to get the star back to the Netherlands.
The Netherlands international has been in excellent form for his country, scoring five goals in his last four appearances, including a game-winning strike that helped his side qualify for the World Cup.
Bergwijn confessed to the media while on international duty that he wants to leave Spurs this summer in order to play more frequently after scoring again this week with a long-range strike against Belgium.

“Have I discussed my future with [Ajax coach] Alfred Schreuder?” I’m at Oranje right now, so we’ll have a look. It would be ideal if there was some sort of resolution quickly. “I simply have to go play,” he said, “but I definitely want to leave Spurs now,” according to Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad.
“Does it matter that my new club competes in the Champions League?” That isn’t even the highest priority. It would be wonderful, though. What matters is that I will participate.”
“I wasn’t permitted to leave Spurs in the winter and then I didn’t have any difficulties,” he said of the thwarted Ajax transfer in January. I was barely looked after there in the final few months. Now I needed to go somewhere elseto have a weekly game.
“Yes, [a return to the Eredivisie] may be a possibility. It’s about my current circumstance, which must be different.”
Bergwijn has been likened to former Chelsea and Bayern Munich star Arjen Robben by Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal, who feels he is too excellent to be warming Tottenham’s bench.
“The comparison with Robben, I’m not there yet, I think,” Bergwijn remarked, “but I can get there, I feel that.” “Confidence may help a player a lot. With Oranje, I understand.”
