Everton keeper Jordan Pickford leaves Andy Townsend stunned0 FollowersAndy Townsend waxes lyrical over ‘great’ Jordan Pickford moment in Everton 4-0 loss v Arsenal
Andy Townsend was blown away by Jordan Pickford after the Everton keeper produced a fine save in the second half of the Toffees’ 4-0 defeat to Arsenal.
It was a night to forget for Sean Dyche’s team who capitulated on the stroke of halftime after a relatively strong first-half display.
However, Pickford left Townsend stunned after the England international denied Eddie Nketiah late on in the second half.
“That ball was lovely but it’s another great stop from the goalkeeper, it’s a good hand,” said Townsend (BeIN Sports 21:15, 1 March).
Move on
The manner of Everton’s defeat was concerning. Dyche’s men were well below the levels they’ve set in recent weeks which allowed the Premier League leaders to produce a fine performance to extend their lead at the summit.
All attention will now turn to this weekend’s fixture against Nottingham Forest. Steve Cooper’s side are four points ahead of the Toffees but have an all-important game in hand. Something has to change heading to the City Ground. The defeats against Aston Villa and Arsenal were reminiscent of Everton under Frank Lampard.
This group of players are simply not good enough and the board are clinging to the hope that Dyche will manage to work some sort of miracle over the coming months.
As for Pickford, the England international will be absolutely vital in the battle to beat the drop. He’s been such a key player for the Toffees over a number of years and if they’re going to be conservative under Dyche, the former Sunderland keeper is going to be a busy man.
