Aston Villa target Arnaut Danjuma is their ‘first-choice’ option in the January transfer window, journalist Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.
New Villa manager Unai Emery is believed to be keen to bring in a winger over the coming weeks and could return to his former side Villarreal in an attempt to sign the highly-rated Danjuma.
Aston Villa transfer news – Danjuma
Last month, Spanish sources revealed that the Midlands outfit have resumed negotiations with the Yellow Submarine for Danjuma in an attempt to reunite him with Emery.
It’s claimed that the Netherlands international has a release clause worth £66 million written into his contract, but that Villarreal are prepared to sanction his exit if a £44 million bid arrives.
Danjuma has previously admitted he is ‘open’ to making a return to the Premier League after failing to make an impression with Bournemouth.
The versatile attacker announced himself as a top talent at the highest level last term, though, registering 16 goals and four assists in 34 appearances across all competitions.
Injuries have limited Danjuma’s game time this time around, but he has still bagged six goals in 17 outings, highlighting why Villa are eager to snap him up.
What has Jones said about Danjuma?
Only Danny Ings has scored over five goals for Villa so far in 2022/23, illustrating why Emery and owners NSWE want to add some extra firepower to his forward line.
And Jones has told GMS that Danjuma is at the top of the Spanish tactician’s wish list when it comes to players who can do just that.
He said: “I think Danjuma was first-choice in the sense that he was the first name they wanted to explore, and they have been doing that.”
Who else could Villa sign?
A recent report Villa have enquired about Udinese winger Gerard Deulofeu’s availability ahead of making a potential move for him.
The former Watford and Everton ace has elevated his game to new heights over the last 18 months by racking up 18 goal contributions in 34 Serie A games in 2021/22.
Deulofeu has carried that form into the current campaign too, finding the back of the net on three occasions in 17 outings while setting up seven further strikes for his teammates.
Both Danjuma and Deulofeu could, therefore, be quality additions to Villa’s setup, although signing both players this winter is perhaps unlikely.
