Desperate changes at the club are imminent after what’s been another disastrous Premier League campaign and the club embroiled in continuous off-the-pitch controversy due to the incompetence at boardroom level.
The Daily Mail reported on Tuesday 23 May, that Farhad Moshiri has entered an exclusivity agreement with the US-based investment firm ahead of a 25% takeover.
An announcement on any potential takeover deal with the American company could follow close after the final game of the season, with the Everton majority shareholder currently wanting to keep quiet on the subject in order to avoid causing a distraction around the clash with Bournemouth.
However, with things already gathering pace, MSP Sports Capital are already wanting to make drastic changes in order to quickly usher in a new era in the blue half of Merseyside.
According to a Liverpool Echo report [24 May], “preferential shares” mean MSP will have no voting rights afforded at boardroom level. However, if a deal is reached, they will have an element of control with potentially two new board members arriving.
It is understood that new arrivals could well spell the end of certain board members who have contributed to the plague currently hanging over the whole club.
i News also reported on 23 May that “MSP, whose chairman is Iranian-American billionaire Jahm Najafi, want to play an active role in the club’s running and seats on the board are expected to follow, with changes to the structure of the club also anticipated.”
The US entity is ready for a hands-on role on and off the pitch, in regard to player recruitment as well as the process to deliver the new multi-million-pound stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock and it will certainly spell the end of Bill Kenwright, Denise Barrett-Baxendale, Grant Ingles, and Graeme Sharp, following the lengthy and much-publicised difficulty at Goodison Park.
However, despite MSP wanting a 25% stake in the Toffees, that doesn’t mean that Moshiri remains safe at Goodison Park.
In fact, seeing his fellow much-maligned colleagues leave the club could well force him to jump ship too, which will come as such pleasing news to the Everton faithful who have been calling for his head for so long.
Since Moshiri’s appointment in 2013, the Blues have been wrapped up in endless upheaval and controversy, leading to plenty of fan protest and unrest.
Everton find themselves in serious turmoil, with the club revealing their dreadful and torrid financial state meaning that should they suffer relegation at the end of the season, it could have damning repercussions such as administration.
It’s no wonder why MSP are desperately seeking to come in and make these drastic boardroom changes. Everton simply can no longer be associated with mediocrity and that has certainly been down to Moshiri’s incompetence.
The whole club fanbase wants to see changes, and it looks as if the new potential owners want to also, and for that to happen, Moshiri should not be involved in any day-to-day runnings or behind-the-scenes decisions any longer.
With the likes of Barrett-Baxendale, Sharp and Kenwright facing the Goodison Park exit door soon, Moshiri could be feeling he is being pushed out also, forcing him to jump ship as his contributions and input are no longer required.
Change is desperately needed on the blue half of Merseyside and the first steps to achieving that involve Moshiri taking them through those Goodison Park exit doors.
