After a disastrous preseason trip to Australia for the defender, it appears like Frederic Guilbert’s tenure at Aston Villa may be coming to an end.
Guilbert is not underperforming; rather, Steven Gerrard is denying him the opportunity, and as a result, he is receiving loud messages.
The Frenchman only played in Villa’s preseason victory against Leeds, and he performed satisfactorily, but he was not included in the 25-man roster for the matches against Brisbane Roar and Manchester United.

Since Matty Cash won the Supporters Player of the Year award last season, he is without a doubt Villa’s starting right-back. However, youngster Kaine Kesler Hayden did make an appearance and made an impression in Australia.
Nevertheless, the Birmingham Mail reported that when Villa departed for Australia, Guilbert rode with those who didn’t play on the media bus rather than the squad bus to the airport.
Guilbert, in turn, praised Australia for its help in the tweet that follows after returning to the UK.

Dean Smith chose Villa even though they were suffering in the second tier at the time; Guilbert joined the team while they were in the Championship but was loaned back before the club was promoted to the Premier League.
He experienced ups and downs in Claret & Blue colours up until the COVID-19 football shutdown, but who didn’t for the Midlands team at that time? With many changes and veteran players seeking to make an impact, it was Villa’s first season back.
The forward-thinking fullback was loaned out by Smith the following season, when Villa survived and was established, before being put in the similar predicament last season.
He played well for Caen and Strasbourg while in France, but Steven Gerrard has only given him 45 minutes since he returned to Villa.
Although it is simpler for a manager to let go of a player he didn’t pay for in this scenario, the player can claim that he has been treated unfairly because he hasn’t done much wrong and hasn’t been given much of an opportunity.
Or perhaps that is just the harsh reality of playing in the Premier League.
